There are 18 days left before the Daley’s will be packed and on the road in a 36-foot travel trailer with our 4 kids and hit the road on an epic business and personal adventure around the outer edge of the US.
The Xcelerate team operates with six values that define our company culture and drives our decision making. We have already highlighted 3 in other blogs (click below if you missed them):
Another value of ours is, “Share the Wealth.” When you hear the word wealth all kinds of things come to mind and our meaning is probably a mixture of a lot of those thoughts. It is not just about money even though we manage it every day. I (Jessica) remember early in Xcelerate, I was building a business alone. Xcelerate was started while I was a stay-at-home mom and was really created to generate some side income for a personal adoption. It began with two clients I personally managed, and I was looking for knowledge and wisdom from other accounting firms. I called two different firms and got two different answers…of which made a mark on me forever. As I was sitting in my Fort Collins home office, I called a firm in Washington state. We had just moved to Colorado from Washington so I started with, “we used to live in Seattle,” thinking it would build some rapport and give us something to talk about. When I began to ask questions about this firm, I was quickly shut-down with “it took me years to build my business, and I am not about to share with you how I grew it”. I was stunned. I don’t remember what was said after that, but that comment left a mark on me. I knew at that moment in time I never wanted to be threatened by other companies. I wondered if the next call would have the same ending, and dreaded dialing those ten digits. I called and asked for the CPA owner. There was a kind, warm voice that began to listen to my heart. I was greeted with comments such as “there is plenty of work for everyone,” and “I would love to share what I’ve learned.” The answers couldn’t have been more starkly different. One was threatened and one was inspiring. I knew from that point forward that I wanted a firm that would be inspiring.
Our team loves to share what we have learned – both the challenges and the wins. We love to create an atmosphere that sharing the wealth of knowledge is safe, welcome, and exhilarating for all. We never want someone to feel that they need to hide their knowledge so they become valuable. In fact, it is the opposite. When someone begins to see a gap and starts sharing their knowledge to another stakeholder, they are creating another valuable place for themselves somewhere else in the company.
The word wealth to us is about all types of wealth including money. We are striving to be a company that gives an aggressive 20% of our gross revenue to church planting, caring for pastors, stakeholder incentives, and profit sharing. We want to be a company that literally shares the wealth of the company to others-leaving another good mark on our communities both close and far. As we work with many churches from the ARC network, Association of Related Churches, we can’t wait for the day that we are able to fully fund a church plant’s matching grant to open their doors of $50,000. We also love sharing the wealth with our team because without them Xcelerate as it is today would not exist. We want to create ways for our team thriving both with internal incentives and external “fun-money” mechanisms. We aren’t just waiting for a future date to begin to share. We do this already as a faith step toward our vision.
Pray as we go in our RV, meet current clients, and gain new ones that Xcelerate’s growth will be propelled to be able to fully fund a church plant with ARC in 2019. Pray our team will continue to see and live the value of “Share the Wealth.” Pray for us as owners that we never forget how Share the Wealth has shaped us!
